Ofsted and performance
Harrogate High School Requires Improvement, according to a report by Ofsted following its inspection of the school April 2023.
The report is clear that we have an accurate view of our school and that the actions we have taken have secured improvements in the quality of education. Whilst recognising that Harrogate High School requires improvement as we continue to develop, and that there is still much to do, Ofsted have confirmed that we are on the right track to make Harrogate High School a great school.
We are delighted that Ofsted inspectors confirmed that:
- Arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with a school culture where safeguarding is seen as everyone’s responsibility.
- We have an “ambitious curriculum” to support all our students, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities.
- We are developing a positive “culture of reading” which supports younger students to read more often and that we provide effective career advice and guidance to older students to make good decisions about their futures.
We are especially pleased that inspectors recognised that we provide good support for pupils with additional needs. Their findings are confirmation of our values as an inclusive school which seeks to support every young person. Inspectors also made recommendations for how we can improve further. These are already part of our action plan for the next stage of the development of our school. It goes without saying that we are all committed to the relentless drive to make Harrogate High School the best that it can be.
